Prime Minister reviews ongoing heatwave situation in the country and preparations for onset of monsoon

The Chief Minister directed that proper training for fire prevention and fighting should continue on a regular basis.

The Prime Minister has ordered regular fire and electrical safety audits of hospitals and other public facilities.

The Prime Minister said the monsoon is likely to be normal or near normal in most parts of the country and below normal in some parts of peninsular India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting at his official residence, Lok Kalyan Marg-7, today early in the morning to review the ongoing heatwave situation in the country and preparedness for the onset of monsoon.

As per the India Meteorological Department forecast, heatwave conditions are likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, informed the Prime Minister. Monsoon this year is expected to be normal or above normal in most parts of the country, while it is below normal in parts of peninsular India.

The Prime Minister directed that proper training for prevention and fighting of fire should be conducted regularly. Fire audits and electrical safety audits of hospitals and other public facilities should be conducted regularly. He said regular training should also be organised for maintaining fire lines in forests and productive utilisation of biomass.

The Prime Minister was briefed about the usefulness of 'Van Agni' portal in timely identification and management of forest fires.

The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Minister of Home Affairs, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Director General, NDRF and Additional Secretary, NDMA, as well as senior officials from the Prime Minister's Office and relevant ministries and departments.
