PM Modi orders regular fire and electrical safety audits of hospitals

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday directed the departments concerned to carry out regular fire and electrical safety audits of hospitals and other public facilities. Speaking at a meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office to review the ongoing heatwave situation in the country and monsoon preparedness, PM Modi also directed that proper drills for fire prevention and fighting be conducted regularly.

Several major fires have been reported in the past few weeks across the country. On May 25, a major fire broke out at BabyCare Newborn Hospital in Delhi, killing seven children. Another major fire in the gaming area of ​​Rajkot killed 27 people. At the meeting on Sunday, the Chief Minister said regular drills should be organised for maintaining fire lines in forests and productive use of biomass.

The Prime Minister was briefed that as per the India Meteorological Department forecast, heatwave conditions are likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh this year, while monsoon is likely to be at or above normal in most parts of the country and below normal in parts of peninsular India.The Prime Minister was also briefed about the usefulness of the 'Van Agni' portal in timely identification and management of forest fires.The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Director General of Forest Fire Warden, Director General of Forest Fire Warden, Director General of Forest Fire Warden and senior officials from the Prime Minister's Department and concerned ministries and departments.
