The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday emphasised on strict adherence to regulatory protocols and fire safety norms.
In a press release, the ministry said, “In healthcare facilities, the safety and health of patients (both outpatients and inpatients), staff and visitors are of paramount importance. Recently, fire accidents have been reported in several locations. These are the result of short circuits due to suboptimal electrical maintenance or overloading of electrical lines due to the use of air conditioners and other equipment. Given the potential risks associated with fire hazards in hospitals, strict protocols and measures must be in place to effectively prevent, detect and respond to fires. Establishing a robust fire safety plan and conducting fire evacuation and safety drills will not only ensure compliance with regulatory requirements but also protect lives and property.”

Following feedback from the macro-level assessment, the ministry has directed all states/union territories to ensure stricter adherence to regulatory protocols and conduct regular mock drills on fire safety.
