Republic of Trinidad and Tobago press release

Release from National Energy and National Petroleum Marketing

The National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (National Energy) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Petroleum Marketing Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NP) to conduct a comprehensive energy audit and feasibility study at NP's facilities. The partnership builds on ongoing national efforts to promote energy efficiency and sustainable operations in the local manufacturing and energy-related sectors.

Leveraging its expertise in implementing Super Energy Services Companies (Super ESCOs) in Trinidad and Tobago, National Energy will lead a comprehensive walk-through energy audit at NP’s facilities to assess current energy usage and identify opportunities to optimise energy consumption.

Following the audit, National Energy will prepare a feasibility study outlining the implementation of recommended Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy (RE) measures. National Energy will fund the implementation of the energy conservation project and provide ongoing technical assistance and support throughout the process.

NP Chairman Sahid Hossain said: “NP is committed to carrying out its mission responsibly. This partnership with National Energy is an important step towards achieving our sustainability goals. The completion of the energy audit and feasibility study will identify opportunities for NP to operate more sustainably.”

National Energy Chairman Dr Joseph Khan welcomed the partnership, saying: “This MOU advances the Super ESCO pilot project we launched with a local manufacturing company in June 2023. National Energy is committed to supporting the government's decarbonisation objectives in the local energy sector by working with state-owned enterprises like NP.” He added that the initiatives emerging from this MOU have great potential to be widely adopted by other state-owned enterprises.
